From earliest times, Christians gathered at regular hours during each day and night to respond to God's word with praise on behalf of creation and with intercession for the salvation of the world. By the fourth century, if not earlier, morning and evening had emerged as the pre-eminent hours for the offering of this sacrifice of praise. The services of Morning and Evening Prayer help Christians of our own day take part in this privilege and duty that belongs to all God's people.
The Church of England “Daily Prayer" site provides a choice of services, including two forms of service for Morning and Evening Prayer. They are the traditional service from The Book of Common Prayer (1662) and a modern service from Common Worship: The Common Worship service of Night Prayer (Compline) is available both in contemporary language and in traditional language (using the texts from the 1928 Prayer Book). Night Prayer, the ancient office of Compline, derives its name from a Latin word meaning 'completion' (completorium). It is above all a service of quietness before the rest at the end of the day.
The London Internet Church also provides a daily service on its website. The London Internet church is part of the ministry and mission of the Diocese of London and St Stephen Walbrook. The uniqueness of the London Internet Church as it is conceived at St Stephen Walbrook is that as well as being an internet based church it is rooted in a real community of Christian people who through their prayers and active pastoral outreach respond to the needs of the LIC community on a daily basis.
Pray as you go, provided by Jesuit Media Initiatives, is a daily prayer session, designed for use on portable MP3 players, to help you pray whenever you find time, but particularly whilst travelling to and from work, or whilst studying, A new prayer session is produced every day of the working week and one session for the weekend. It is not a 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer. Lasting between ten and thirteen minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection.
